Random Stuff You Should Know About

FMYLIFE.COM Just know, that when life gets you down, it could always get worst. LOL.

Art=Passion - Mac Worthington

Sooooooo.....today I decided to introduce you all to a local artist, that you can actually purchase something from. His name is Mac Worthington, and he is a local Columbus artist. I was introduced to his work a couple of years ago by my Daddy, who is an avid collector of his work, and art in general. He works with metal and bright colors.

 His work is very edgy and modern and I love it. I've included a couple of pieces from my family's own collection and a couple from his site. His gallery is located in the Short North on High Street. Check him out online here.

Design=Passion - Candace Olsen

So I've already introduced you to George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg, but I'd also like to introduce you to one of my other favorite designers, Candace Olsen. How ironic that she went to Ryerson too! But anyways, this ex-volleyball player has her own TV show on HGTV, Divine Design. She deals more with home interiors. My favorite aspects of her work are her lighting and use of fabric and other textures to create the elegant look she is known for. I love all of her work and have included some examples below! Enjoy!

You Tube Classics - He's Gonna Kick My Ass

Lol...the title speaks for its self....

J-Setting

Okayyyyy....so with finals week and everything else....my blogging has been slacking....but....not to fear I'm back.....with my first topic you should know about. I was recently catching up on my reading of VIBE magazine and saw an article about J-Setting. Apparently this type of dance is really big in the Gay community, similar to the way vogue-ing is. And if your a Top Model fan then you know that is like a series of fluid poses that kind of forms a dance.

Anyways, J-Setting was brought to the spotlight with Beyonce's single ladies video.

This was one of my favorite new videos a couple of months back because it was sooooo different and Bey was so fierce! I was surprised to find out the Bey was J-Setting in this video! So I did my youtube research and found some original videos of some J-Setting Groups doing their thing. Check it out below.

I know this type of stuff can make a lot of males uncomfortable but these dudes are killing it...and credit must be given where is due! PS.....these videos were done like 2 years ago!

Art=Passion - Batiste Madelena

Like I've mentioned before I love art, mostly modern. I love old movie posters - they're graphic and bold, and idk I just like them. Soooo that being said.... today's artist spotlight features the work of Batiste Madelena, an Italian immigrant. Mr. Madelena immigrated from Italy in his 20's and almost immediately began working for George Eastman (the founder of the Kodak compant that we know today) designing posters for his Eastman Theater in Rochester, New York. The artist was commissioned to produce 7 22x44 posters for each film that came to the theater. By the end of 1928 he had created more than 1400 works of art for the theater.

Madelena was able to capture the essence of a movie with minimum of clutter. Using tempera paint on poster board he created a mood that demanded your attention. All of Madelena's work was almost lost. The artist himself discovered all of his works trashed in a dumpster behind the theater on a rainy day. Most of his work was lost but he was able to salvage and restore about 225 of them.

He died in 1988. His legacy includes many of the classic film posters of the 1920's. One of his mass produced poster's for the film Casablanca sold for almost $18,000.

Check out some of his work below.

Oh yea and all of his stuff is hand painted. He had skills

Art=Passion

So I'm an artsy creative person. I love weird, beautiful things. Innovative things. Cool things. Blah blah. So I was taking this Art 205 class (completely hated it.... waaaayyyyy to much work when you're taking a design class that has you doing the same stuff in a different way) and my teacher had us randomly draw artists names from a hat. Boy did I get lucky! Lol. I got Fred Tomaselli.

Fred Tomaselli was born in Santa Monica, California. Cal State.....blah blah blah....fast forward to Brooklyn, New York. Mr.Tomaselli makes beautiful collages out of found objects like magazine clippings, weed and prescription drugs. Yes I said prescription drugs. And he suspends these things in resin (kind of like sap). Anyways, his work has been featured at shows world wide, with his most recent exhibition at MoMA....the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Learn more about him here. I've included a couple of pieces to generate some interest.

PS.....those little dots in every picture are pills, the flowers are cut outs.......but the tree is my fav.....imagine how many different types of pills there are...

Interior Design=Passion

So anybody who knows me well knows that I want to be an Interior Designer. Its my major in school and NO its not
the same thing as Interior Decoration. You don't have to go to school for that. Interior Design is more architectural and about space and interior architecture, in addition to the aesthetics. I'm more interested in Commercial Interior Design.....so no, I don't aspire to decorate your house. I would love to be in the hospitality industry, designing hotels, restaurants, and clubs.....and the occasional retail store/boutique. Sooooooo.....in saying all of that.....I was introducing you to a new blog topic that will be updated often. I would like to get you all hip! Lol

That being said, I would like to introduce you to the design duo of YABUPUSHELBERG. They are Toronto based with an office in New York. They have projects all over the world, designing the interiors for the Four Seasons Tokyo, Tiffany &Co's flag ship store in NYC, and numerous restaurants in Vegas and LA. They are DOPE!!

George Yabu and Glen Pushelberg met while attending Ryerson University in Toronto (where my other idol Candace Olsen also went.....I need to go there). They've been in the game for 30 years and do BEAUTIFUL work!

In one of my Design classes Freshman year I had to do a powerpoint on a designer in my field. I remembered seeing a photo of the Blue Fin Restaurant in NYC(the first pic). I wanted to find out who was behind that amazing design and my research led me to these designers.

Check them out here.

New Music

I guess Im on this Young Money kick....so I might as well include TYGA in the line up........You can download and listen to his recently released mixtape entitled OUTRAGED & UNDERAGE here. This is supposed to be a preview to for his next project.

Drake

ugh..... So I think Drake is one of the most talented rappers to come along in a very long time.....but I can't help but be slightly irritated that everybody just jumped on the bandwagon. But he def. deserves all the attention and recognition...so at the same time Im happy for him.

Check out and download his most recent mixtape, So Far Gone, here.

If you need to catch up you can find Come Back Season here and Heart Break Drake here.

Some of the tracks overlap....but you get it.

Random Stuff You Should Know About

So one of my favorite things to do in my free time (while watching reality tv of course) is find random blogs on the internet. I have my main go-to's like ConcreteLoop, eighty81, and mediatakeout.....but occasionally I find my self on stuffwhitepeoplelike.com. They don't update very often but the stuff they put on here is hilarious! Of course if you are easily offended and have a wit-less sense of humor, I suggest you refrain from visiting this site.

The Very First One

wooo-hoooo....so this is the first post.....nothing exciting yet! Stay tuned for more!
